Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2025

In plain language: Be a decent human being to your fellow passengers. Don't misuse SOS. Don't fake tickets. Everything gets deleted when the train arrives. This is a community — treat it like one.

1. Acceptance

By entering your PNR and joining a train room, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use The Bogie. These terms apply to all users of the platform.

2. Eligibility

  • You must hold a valid Indian Railways ticket (PNR) for the journey you are joining.
  • You must be at least 13 years of age to use The Bogie.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide during the boarding process.
  • One passenger identity per PNR slot. Each passenger on a ticket gets their own identity and cannot impersonate another.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use The Bogie only for lawful purposes. You must not:

  • Post content that is hateful, abusive, threatening, or harassing.
  • Share personal information about other passengers without their consent (doxxing).
  • Post sexually explicit, graphic violent, or otherwise harmful content.
  • Attempt to manipulate, deceive, or impersonate other passengers.
  • Spam the chat with repeated, meaningless, or automated messages.
  • Use the platform to advertise products or services without permission.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise extract data from The Bogie.
  • Attempt to circumvent authentication, rate limiting, or security measures.

4. SOS button — critical rule

The SOS safety button is a feature for genuine emergencies only. It immediately alerts every passenger in the train room with a visible pin.

  • You must not trigger SOS for non-emergency, humorous, or test purposes.
  • Misuse of the SOS button may result in an immediate permanent ban from the platform.
  • Genuine emergencies include: medical emergencies, safety threats, fire, or situations where passengers need immediate assistance from fellow travellers.

5. Content you post

You are solely responsible for all content you post — messages, moments, swap requests, and direct messages. By posting content you represent that:

  • You have the right to share it.
  • It does not infringe any copyright, trademark, or privacy right.
  • It complies with these Terms.

The Bogie does not claim ownership of your content. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to display your content within the platform during the journey. This licence terminates automatically when the room expires and the content is deleted.

6. Moderation and bans

The Bogie uses a community reporting system. Any passenger can report a message or moment. When content receives 5 reports, it is automatically removed.

  • Passengers whose content is repeatedly removed may receive a temporary ban (typically 1 hour for minor offences).
  • Severe violations (SOS misuse, harassment, threats) may result in an immediate permanent ban for the duration of the journey.
  • Moderation decisions are automated. We may review ban appeals sent to hello@thebogie.com.

7. Privacy and data

Your privacy is important to us. Please read our Privacy Policy which forms part of these Terms. Key points:

  • Your PNR is never stored. It is hashed immediately and the raw number discarded.
  • All data in a room is permanently deleted when the train arrives.
  • We do not collect your name, phone number, or email.

8. Availability and reliability

The Bogie is provided "as is". We aim for high availability but cannot guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted service, particularly in areas with poor mobile connectivity.
  • Delivery of all real-time messages (network conditions may affect delivery).
  • Accuracy of third-party data such as train routes, live position, or nearby places.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Bogie and its operators are not liable for:

  • Any loss or harm arising from interactions with other passengers, including in-person meetings resulting from connections made on the platform.
  • Any content posted by other users.
  • Any loss of messages or data due to service interruption.
  • Any inaccuracy in third-party data (train schedules, places, live location).

Use common sense and personal judgment when interacting with other passengers. The Bogie is a communication tool — not a verification system for individual safety.

10. Not affiliated with IRCTC

The Bogie is an independent product. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with IRCTC, Indian Railways, or any government body. The PNR verification API is used solely to confirm ticket validity. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
